Some verbs follow different spelling rules for adding “ing”
If the verb ends in silent -e, drop the e and add -ing
Example:
You double the final consonant and add -ing if the verb meets ALL of these conditions:
1. It’s a one-syllable verb
2. It ends in consonant + vowel + consonant (CVC)
3. The final consonant is not w, x, or y
(these are never doubled)
Example:
If a verb ends in -ie, change -ie to -y, then add -ing
