Past Simple + Past Continuous Basics
Use the negative form of Past Continuous for an ongoing action and Past Simple for a completed action that interrupted it.
Subject + was/were + n’t/ not + verb‑ing + when + subject + past simple verb.
Example:
He wasn’t sleeping when the alarm rang.
He was not sleeping when the alarm rang.
